Castle Special Place
Take Action to Protect the Castle
CPAWS and our partners are always working with stakeholders and politicians to push for the protection of the Castle. We have seen immense progress over the past several months, and the formal protection of this area has never been closer. But we still need a solid show of support from the public and that means YOU! There are many ways you can help.
- Learn more about the Castle Special Place proposal. Read the proposal (there is an executive summary on page three) and the frequently asked questions document (on the Castle Special Place website).
- Phone your MLA, the office of Minister Mel Knight (Ministry of Sustainable Resource Development), the office of Minister Addy (Parks, Recreation, and Tourism), or the office of MLA Evan Berger (MLA for Livingstone-Macleod). Let your own MLA and the Ministers know that you support the legislated protection of the Castle Special Place as a combination Wildland and Provincial Park.
Find your MLA's contact information here.
- Write a letter to the Premier, the Minister of Tourism, Parks, and Recreation and the Minister of Sustainable Resource Development. If you are an Albertan, write to your own MLA as well. For some help in getting started, tips for letter writing and phone calling.

- Take a trip to the Castle and make it a Big Wild Challenge. The Big Wild is a joint initiative by MEC and CPAWS. To take a Big Wild Challenge sign up at www.thebigwild.ca and plan out a trip that will last more than 24 hours, not use fixed-roof accommodation, and is self-propelled. Take pictures and write about your trip, and it will be posted on your page at www.thebigwild.ca. You can choose to use your trip as a fundraiser by asking for sponsorship (great if you're doing a really big trip!) or just as an awareness-raiser to show your support for saving Canadian wilderness, and the Castle in particular. If you're not familiar with the Castle yet, don't worry! CPAWS has published a hiking guide for all your summer explorations!
- Become a CPAWS member or volunteer and help to support the conservation work we do every day.
