CPAWS CPAWS National Tour - Gwaii Haanas Celebration

Stay tuned for more details on the Calgary event during the CPAWS cross-Canada tour celebrating the completion of Gwaii Haanas National Marine Conservation Area.
   
Expo Mayor's Environmental Expo
June 1-3, 2010, 9 am to 3 pm
Municipal Building Atrium

A celebration of environmental stewardship and education. Three days, 5,700 participants and 60 exhibits on eco-action in Calgary, including an interactive CPAWS booth. Come and learn about our conservation campaigns!

9 am - 2 pm at the Calgary Tower

Come and say hi to us at the CPAWS booth at the base of the Calgary Tower. We'll be there to share in the festivities as part of the Wild Alberta Expo.

Ecopalooza is an environmental fair hosted by the Calgary Public Library. CPAWS will have an interactive booth where people can learn about The Big Wild.

Canadian touring artist and 1% For The Planet member Chris Velan stopped in Calgary on his national tour to raise awareness about local environmental issues. At the CPAWS booth people learned about The Big Wild and CPAWS conservation campaigns.

This forum, presented by the M.D. of Bighorn, brought together the rural population of agricultural and nonagricultural residents, and the urban population to discuss topics of interest. Speakers included Dr. Dave Sauchyn (Climate Change and the Implications for Southern Alberta) and Gord Stenhouse (Counting Grizzly Bears in Alberta-Too Many or Not Enough). CPAWS had a booth showcasing our projects and campaigns.

Preston Manning’s presentation was followed by a discussion surrounding the challenges of expressing and practising land stewardship convictions in the context of the global marketplace and the Canadian political arena. The event was co-sponsored by CPAWS and St. Mary's University College, with generous assistance from the Alberta Real Estate Foundation.

The Mountain Book Fair features the latest titles in mountain literature, as well as maps, photographs, archival material, antiquarian books, and book signings by famous and soon-to-be famous mountain authors. In conjunction with the Centre for Affordable Water and Sanitation Technology (CAWST) and Canadian Parks and Wilderness Society (CPAWS - Southern Alberta Chapter), this course gave participants an overview of global, national, and regional water issues. The focus was on the Bow River Basin, training participants to be stewards of our watershed by understanding the links between water quality, quantity, climate, wildlife and all factors contributing to the health of our watershed. At the CPAWS booth, we offered games and contests and a chance to hang out with the Woodland Caribou from our Caribou and You campaign. MEC promoted the Big Wild, and CPAWS was there all weekend to spice things up. We also filmed a video with Woodland Caribou while he was in town.
